A day of outreach on the streets and camps of Austin

Jeff and Debb have taken on an almost daily mission to feed the brothers and sisters on the streets with fresh food and more from Carol’s Kindness Plus each week.

One Saturday each month a Round Rock group, Tango Charities Feeds the City. They make and donate bags of sandwiches, chips, and fruit to both Love, Serve, Feed in Round Rock and to Carol’s Kindness to give out. Lots and Lots of bags of food to share their hearts with those who need a meal or two. Jeff and Debb filled the car to overflowing with over 2000 sandwiches and brought their load south to Gus Garcia Rec Center to share with those attending the pantry. They filled 3 coolers to overflowing with sandwiches so everyone could have 2-3 sandwiches to take with them. We added all the beautifully bagged potato chips to our table as those are rare in our donations.

That was just the beginning of a bigger trip in so many ways. At 11 am, after off-loading about 1/2 the carful, they started their trip around the area. The rumor was that there were so many bags in the car that Debb had to have some in her lap in the early part of the drive.
We were concerned that people might not want to have their picture taken if they needed food, but a few of our more photogenic neighbors said, “why not?” and posed. After serving over 50 people, our dynamic duo returned to Carol’s house to take some of the remaining sandwiches to 3 of the ATXFreeFridges. We love sharing the KINDNESS!

This is not the end of the story, though. Jeff has been hunting for food in a true salvage manner most days of the week. He stops at Carol’s to pick up some extras like energy drinks, granola bars, or cans of chili or pasta some days. Some days, we are even able to share a bit of donated restaurant food. Early in the week, Carol can give him items that will not last until Saturday to share with 20-40 people a day!
