Donations to our pantry lately have been weird. One day we get almost nothing then BANG 200 pounds of carrots the next day. Last week it was over 100 individual frozen meals and probably as many ice cream “pops” But Saturday topped it all!!
Carol and Linda went to pickup sandwiches expecting the 2 large coolers full that the Canteen sometimes give. Neither was prepared for the abundance that was gifted to Carol’s Kindness Pantry. “I didn’t expect 6 pallets . He just kept bringing out more and more. We showed up around 10:30 am and packed for 2 hours.”
The coolers filled the back of Carol’s car (not a small car) and Linda’s pickup truck. When they finally got the sandwiches back to Gus Garcia, the food pantry was just finishing up. No point in carrying the coolers of sandwiches inside. Carol came into the pantry and told everyone left, about 40 people, to come out to the curb and get some sandwiches. She opened her car and Linda her tailgate and told everyone to take what they wanted. Surprises were found under some of the sandwiches too–S’mores parfait cups–highly prized and grabbed up with wide smiles.
Kerby of Kerby’s Clothing Ministry luckily had trash bags and handed them out to the unhoused and everyone got a lot.
The donation was about 1220 pounds. 61 crates sandwiches and parfaits!
