Oh my goodness our pantry at Carol’s Kindness yesterday was amazing! We had so much food and a couple of surprise donations. Had to grab an extra table for the produce bags, sent a large box of meat back to the freezer in its foam cooler, got lots of extra deserts for people and in the end we had 1 milk crate full of canned goods and 2 large coolers full of frozen meat to start off next week. People had 2-4 overflowing bags plus an 8 pack of cokes to take home.

I try to bring over enough but not too much food to serve the community. We serve around 400 persons each week with a variety of donated foods. We try to offer a healthy mix of foods for people to select to fill their 2-3 grocery bags. I try to have enough to make it to the very end so every person goes home with food. We keep special bins of shelf stable foods for our unhoused clients and frequently dip into them for the last few latecomers. Next week I will be purchasing pasta as we are totally out, more shelf stable milk too. We get $$s donated from time to time to purchase food which helps.

I would have done a birthday donation drive but the drastic need from the recent hurricane has us pulling from our own funds instead. Maybe closer to Thanksgiving. We are so blessed with volunteers and food. I cannot but give thanks every week for whatever we get to offer. Next week it looks like lots of pizzas, cheese, and chicken. I think I saw packages of lasagna and other goodies too.
