OUR MISSION: responding to the SNAP issues

Being privately funded by donations and grants and being a salvage pantry is allowing us to jump right in and respond to the potential cut off/delay of SNAP for many in the area. We already have seen many over the years whose benefits do not stretch far enough.

  • We have a continuous supply of canned goods, including lots of types of beans, several weeks in line to distribute.
  • We are able to purchase the staples for the table from donated funds from Walmart and HEB, in addition to some items from Amazon.
  • We are able to secure 5 pallets of fresh food weekly from the Central Texas Food Bank and they deliver.
  • We get large donations of snack items and beverages from warehouses every week and a backlog of serveral weeks to share.
  • Recently we are getting restraunt donations of a variety of foods: pizzas, chicken nuggets and more.
  • Friends and neighbors have gone into their pantries to share and many have gone shopping for items we can then put out.

We are planning a holiday meal give-away for around 135-40 people. It won’t cover everyone that come but will take care of a lot who want the meal. We cannot supply that many turkeys, other places will have those. We will supply rotisserie chickens, and fixings in addition to a full pantry. Hopefully we will have sweets and bread to top off the meal.

We are committed to allowing our clients to make their own selections instead of a pre-packed bag. It takes longer to distribute this way, but clients get food they want and will eat. Over the last couple of years we have gotten frequent donations of food that the clients were given at other pantries but would not eat. It is not culturally acceptable, or they just do not like that food, or do not know what to do with it. Several of our volunteers offer suggestions on fixing items too.

Sometimes people think if they show up hours before we open registration that it will help them get more food, but it does not, and the wait is just a lot longer that way.

Thanks to our many donors: #sproutsfarmersmarket#target,#specs#costco#pizzahut#loveservefeed#CentralTexasFoodBank#LoneStarFamily, #McDonalds , #CanteenSnackandCoffee, and all the people in the community who support us with donations of food and $$. Thanks also to the volunteers who spend countless hours transporting, packing, arranging and giving out the food and doing all the behind the scenes jobs that make a pantry function.

We like to say that Carol’s Kindness is Oh So Kind. We hear this a lot.
Until next week we are putting the little truck to rest.
